Are electric boilers a good idea?
Electric boilers can be a very good idea in the right property, but they are not the best option for every home or business. They are compact, quiet, clean at the point of use, and do not need a flue, gas supply, oil tank, or fuel storage. This makes them useful for flats, small homes, extensions, offices, workshops, and properties where mains gas is not available.
They are also simpler than gas or oil boilers because they do not have a burner, fan, gas valve, or flue system. These features can make servicing and maintenance more straightforward. However, the main disadvantage is running costs. Electricity usually costs more per unit than gas, so an electric boiler can be more expensive to run, especially in larger or poorly insulated buildings.
Electric boilers work best in well-insulated properties with lower heating demand, suitable radiators or underfloor heating, good heating controls, and an electrical supply that can safely support the boiler.
