What is a destratification fan?
What is a destratification fan? A destratification fan is a fan designed to reduce temperature layering in buildings with high ceilings. In large spaces such as warehouses, factories, workshops, sports halls, retail units, and industrial buildings, warm air naturally rises and collects near the roof. Cooler air then remains at floor level, where people are working. This effect is known as thermal stratification.
Destratification – pushing heated air back to ground level
A destratification fan helps by gently pushing the warm air from the ceiling area back down towards the occupied zone. This helps mix the air and creates a more even temperature from floor to ceiling. As a result, the heating system does not have to work as hard to keep the lower part of the building warm.
Destratification fans are often used with warm air heaters, radiant heaters, boilers, heat pumps or other commercial heating systems. They can help to increase comfort levels, reduce heat loss at roof level and cut energy running costs. They are especially beneficial in buildings where there is a big difference between floor and ceiling temperatures.

Unlike a normal cooling fan, a destratification fan is not mainly used to create a breeze. Its purpose is to move air slowly and effectively to reduce heat build-up at high level. When correctly selected and positioned, destratification fans can make a heating system more efficient and improve the working environment in high-ceiling buildings.
