What are the different types of destratification fans?
What are the different types of destratification fans? High-velocity enclosed destratification fans or low-velocity destratification fans. What type of destrat fans you require will depend on your building’s needs with regard to mounting height and acceptable noise level.
In simple terms, smaller/lower spaces usually suit low-velocity fans, while taller industrial buildings normally need high-velocity destratification units with a stronger air throw.
Low-velocity destratification fans – also known as ‘sweep’ or ‘punkah’ fans

These are slower-running ceiling fans with larger blades. They gently mix the air rather than producing a concentrated jet of air. They are often used in lower commercial spaces such as churches, halls, showrooms and libraries and areas where low noise and gentle air movement are important. Low-velocity destrat fans are generally more suited to lower and medium ceiling heights.
High-velocity enclosed destratification fans

Flexiheat UK Leo range of industrial and commercial destrat fans – adjustable air outlet grid that is standard on all units
These are probably the most common industrial type. They are usually compact, enclosed axial fan units mounted at a high level and directed downwards. They are suited to warehouses, factories, supermarkets, exhibition halls and commercial buildings, typically where a strong downward air throw is required. Our range at Flexiheat UK is suitable for mounting heights from around 6 metres up to 15 metres.
Then we have our high-velocity axial fans with diffusers or nozzles

Industrial destratification fans, or destrat fans, from Flexiheat UK – turbo confuser attachment for extended air throw up to 30 metres.
These fans provide greater air throw in very tall warehouses, high-bay storage areas and large industrial buildings. Some models use a diffuser, nozzle or “turbo” attachment to project air down from roof level towards the floor. Flexiheat UK has this type for buildings with very high ceiling heights, with an air-throw capability of up to around 30 metres.
Which can be smart or BMS-controlled destratification fans
Many modern destratification fans are available with thermostats, variable speed control, EC motors or BMS integration. This allows the fan to run only when there is a useful temperature difference between roof level and occupied level, helping to avoid draughts and unnecessary electrical use.
We supply all of these destratification fan options and they are listed on this webpage – Destratification fans for churches, warehouses, factories, etc.
