Do air curtains use a lot of electricity?
Do air curtains use a lot of electricity? Ambient air curtains use electricity only for the fan to produce an air stream, so their electrical consumption is usually moderate compared with electric heating equipment. Electric heated air curtains can use much more electricity, as they have electric heating elements, because the heat output requires a significant electrical load to heat the air within the air curtain.
The running cost depends on the unit size, fan speed (we always recommend our “EC” fan versions, as they are up to 50% more energy-efficient than older technology “AC” motors, with lower sound levels too), heat output, control method, door usage, and operating hours. A small ambient unit above a doorway may be relatively economical to run, while a large electric heated air curtain running all day can be expensive.
For larger commercial applications, LPHW heated or heat pump-connected air curtains are often preferred because the heat is produced by the building’s heating system rather than direct electric heating elements.
